SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO? CHILDREN AND DIVORCE
I counsel my clients looking to get a divorce about the ramifications of a divorce and its impact on the children. Often, people stay together until the children are out of high school believing it is best for the children to have both parents in the home for the “children’s sake.” In reality, based on my experience, a household emotionally divided is less preferential then a household actuallydivided (living separate and apart). I encourage my clients with children to work on their marriage (e.g., counseling), but without the effort by both parents, a house emotionally divided is likely more harmful to children then a house actually divided. I came across this article, which I hope you find helpful: https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/splitopia/201503/yes-you-can-raise-happy-children-after-divorce.
